The Research Fellow and Research Associate scheme aim to create an international network of diverse, passionate and ethical researchers and community leaders. We will provide a dedicated space to scholars from academia and our partner communities to learn, unlearn, and relearn together.
2024 Visiting Fellows announced
Dr. Syed Wajid Bukhari
Dr. Syеd Wajid Bukhari holds a PhD in Gеology and spеcializing in gеophysical and
gеodynamic procеssеs. His rеsеarch focusеs on thе palеogеographic and tеctonic sеdimеntary
еvolution of thе South China Sеa margin, Tibеt Platеau and Pak-Iran offshore regions.
Utilizing advancеd modеling tools such as Badlands, Gplatеs, Surfer, Geosoft and QGIS, hе
has contributеd significantly to thе fiеld and publishing in top-tiеr journals. With ovеr ten
yеars of tеaching еxpеriеncе, hе has mеntorеd futurе gеologists and dеvеlopеd impactful
curricula. Currеntly, hе sеrvеs as a Visiting Fеllow at ASSET and UTS, whеrе hе continuеs
his multidisciplinary rеsеarch and acadеmic collaboration.

Vivek Ramakrishnan is a PhD student in the Sociology department at UCLA, studying social-environmental change, development, and labor. He utilizes computational and ethnographic methods to analyze how societies, institutions, and individuals dynamically adapt and plan for complex phenomena like climate change, automation, and pandemics. Before beginning graduate school he worked as a data scientist for the Philadelphia Department of Human Services and graduated from the University of Chicago with a BA in Economics and Public Policy in 2020. His current project focuses on the social and institutional responses to deforestation in Malaysian Borneo.

Abeda Muhammad Iqbal earned her Bachelor's in Commerce from the University of Karachi, Pakistan in 2005, followed by a Master's in Human Resource Development from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Johor Bahru in 2012. In 2018, she successfully obtained her Ph.D. in Human Resource Development from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. Recently she is have completed two years of her Postdoctoral Fellowship from the Institute of Social Informatics & Technological Innovation, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak, Malaysia. Her research interests encompass technology management, smart contracts, blockchain technology, organizational behavior, and entrepreneurship. She has contributed to several reputable publications with her research articles within her research domains.

Victoria Pratt
Victoria is an artist, Co-founder and Creative Director of Invisible Flock and is responsible for bringing together the Land Body Ecologies research group, winners of the Wellcome Trust Hub Award. As an artist she works across disciplines, which is why you can find Invisible Flock's art practice taking place in many spaces; anywhere from mobiles phones, laboratories, care homes, or out at sea. She is passionate about understanding the complexities of human/nature relationships, the role of mental health in how humans live in our present climate, and how creative practices might allow us to re-imagine our realities and our relationship to the landscapes that hold them.

Chris Muashekele is a young indigenous Namibian scholar enrolled as a PhD Fellow at Aalborg Universitet in Denmark. His research focuses on technology co-design, appropriation, and development in indigenous, rural, marginalized, and informal contexts.

Hazman Hazumi
Dr. Hazman Hazumi, a seasoned professional technologist and co-founder of TNF Global, excels in pioneering innovative solutions for the construction industry. With over 15 years of experience, his expertise spans 3D scan to Building Information Modeling (BIM), BIM 3D, 4D, and 5D constructions, and digital twin technologies. As CEO/Co-Founder, he leads the integration of advanced digital tools, enhancing project planning, design, and execution globally. Dr. Hazman's leadership and contributions have significantly elevated the efficiency, accuracy, and sustainability of construction projects, cementing his status as a visionary leader in the field research and development.

The scheme allows academics, researchers, and practitioners to spend a period of time collaborating and conducting research within the Centre. The Fellows may be UTS faculty member, undergraduate or postgraduate student or an academician on sabbatical leave, sponsored directly by other organisations.
Prospective applicants should note that the Centre only accepts applicants who can:
- Demonstrate an intention and plan for establishing a research record
- Present a clear case for being based specifically in the ASSET; such as an alignment of candidate's research interests and ASSET's strategic pillars and strategic approach
- Provide a clear timetable for the proposed duration and timing of their visit, together with achievable research objectives
- Make a compelling case to demonstrate that their presence and work will complement our research environment and enhance the Centre's research profile
The positions of Research Fellow and Research Associate are non-contractual, unpaid and confers access to UTS and ASSET facilities.
Support will also be offered to identify the most appropriate supervisory team and funders for a research project on the chosen topic.

Junior Visiting Fellow
The Junior Visiting Fellow scheme is intended for undergraduate students who are looking for a short -term attachment or summer/winter internship.
Visiting Fellow
The Visiting Fellow scheme is intended for external postgraduate students who seek advice and support in conducting preparatory work for identifying potential research questions, relevant methods, sources of data and testing and analysing the results.
Senior Visiting Fellow
The Senior Visiting Fellow scheme is intended for external scholars who are at the Lecturer or post-doctoral level.
Research Associate and Research Fellow
The Centre may confer the title of Research Associate (external candidate) or Research Fellow (UTS faculty member) for a defined period on persons of distinction whose connection with the Centre is appropriate to the title.
