Research Fellowships 2024

Unfunded position, researcher shall organise funding by him/herself
The Research Fellow and Research Associate scheme aim to create an international network of diverse, passionate and ethical researchers and community leaders. We will provide a dedicated space to scholars from academia and our partner communities to learn, unlearn, and relearn together.

2024 Visiting Fellows announced

The scheme allows academics, researchers, and practitioners to spend a period of time collaborating and conducting research within the Centre. The Fellows may be UTS faculty member, undergraduate or postgraduate student or an academician on sabbatical leave, sponsored directly by other organisations.


Prospective applicants should note that the Centre only accepts applicants who can:

  • Demonstrate an intention and plan for establishing a research record
  • Present a clear case for being based specifically in the ASSET; such as an alignment of candidate's research interests and ASSET's strategic pillars and strategic approach
  • Provide a clear timetable for the proposed duration and timing of their visit, together with achievable research objectives
  • Make a compelling case to demonstrate that their presence and work will complement our research environment and enhance the Centre's research profile


The positions of Research Fellow and Research Associate are non-contractual, unpaid and confers access to UTS and ASSET facilities.

Support will also be offered to identify the most appropriate supervisory team and funders for a research project on the chosen topic.

Junior Visiting Fellow

The Junior Visiting Fellow scheme is intended for undergraduate students who are looking for a short -term attachment or summer/winter internship.

Visiting Fellow

The Visiting Fellow scheme is intended for external postgraduate students who seek advice and support in conducting preparatory work for identifying potential research questions, relevant methods, sources of data and testing and analysing the results.

Senior Visiting Fellow

The Senior Visiting Fellow scheme is intended for external scholars who are at the Lecturer or post-doctoral level.

Research Associate and Research Fellow

The Centre may confer the title of Research Associate (external candidate) or Research Fellow (UTS faculty member) for a defined period on persons of distinction whose connection with the Centre is appropriate to the title.
