Workshop on Measuring Internet Quality and User Experience:
Tools and Approaches
The workshop aims to equip participants with the knowledge and practical skills needed to use crowdsourced tools, such as myspeed.site and netStethoscope, to measure internet quality and user experience. The session will provide insights into the challenges surrounding internet access in underserved areas and introduce methods for co-designing tools for data collection and analysis to improve decision-making in telecom policy and service provision.

We are accepting 10 participants for the workshop.
The workshop organizers will provide ICCIS2024 conference registration bursaries to the accepted participants .

After receiving the acceptance email, Participants will need to register for the conference and pay the registration fee in advance. The workshop organizers will reimburse the registration fee upon receiving the original payment receipt.
Please note that participation in the workshop for the full 3-hour duration is mandatory in order to qualify for reimbursement.

Meet the Facilitator
Dr. Tariq Zaman, Associate Professor and Head of the Advanced Centre for Sustainable Socio-Economic and Technological Development (ASSET) at UTS Malaysia, brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this workshop. With a Ph.D. in Computer Science and over 24 years in academia, research, and development, Dr. Tariq is a recognized expert in ICT for Development, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), and Service Learning. His work has earned numerous awards, including the IFIP Brian Shackel Award and the ISIF Asia Award 2013. Dr. Tariq is deeply engaged in policy development, having served as a member of the Sarawak Government’s 5G & Connectivity Keylab Working Group. He also consults for Charles Darwin University, Australia, and has been honored as a Distinguished Scholar by COMSTECH. In 2021, he served as an evaluator for the Digital Futures Diversity and Inclusion Fund for the Swedish Government in collaboration with KTH Royal Institute of Technology and Stockholm University. This workshop, part of the APNIC Foundation-funded project titled “Scaling-up myspeed.site: Tools for Measuring the Status of Internet Connectivity,” will benefit from Dr. Tariq’s extensive expertise in both the technical and policy aspects of ICT development.
